A short interview with Gunther Vandenven

Erographic: When did you become interested in photography?
Gunther Vandenven: It started when I was 17 or 18 and I discovered the camera. From then on, it didn't let me go anymore. I was fascinated by the possibilities and the creativity of a camera. I started shooting whatever was interesting to build up some experience. It is in a later process that I decided to shoot only models, fashion and glamour.

Erographic: Do you have your own studio or are you most of the time working on location?
Gunther Vandenven:  I have my own studio where I do the most of my work, also as a fashion photographer. But I also work on location when clients ask for that. But for the blue-art pictures I always worked in the studio, but when I find a great and outstanding location I want to try to shoot my blue pictures over there.

Erographic:  Do you have assistance or are you working alone?
Gunther Vandenven:  I always work alone when I'm shooting blue-art pictures. I build up a confidence between model and photographer and than it is better to work alone than working with an assistant. Sometimes there is somebody to do the make-up, but when we start shooting this person leaves and lets us work alone.

Erographic:  Was It easy to find models when you first started photographing nude?
Gunther Vandenven:  I started taking some nude pictures when I was still going to school. The school I went to was mixed, boys and girls. So it was never that hard to find a girl that wanted to do some nude modelling as long as it didn't go too far, no erotic pictures like I'm doing now but more the semi-nude or soft things.

Erographic:  What do you prefer: digital or analog?
Gunther Vandenven:  At the moment I prefer digital. As long as you don't blow up the pictures too much, you can control more with digital photography than with analog. But I still find that you have to make the picture at the moment and not afterwards in photoshop. The blue effect in my pictures is also created at the moment of shooting and not in photoshop.

Erographic: What do you think is your best photograph?
Gunther Vandenven:  The picture of Sindy (Click Here) is one of the most beautiful creations. It is sensual and very erotic but not shocking at all. There are a lot of other pictures I like as well but this one has something special in its creation.
